Energy-Peru: New simple cycle beggining operation in Peruvian Power System
Enersur, peruvian company that depends on Suez Energy, is nowadays completing the commissioning period for its first gas turbine unit (175MW) in Thermoelectric plant 'Chilca 1', located in Chilca, in region Ica, at southern part of Lima, capital city of Peru.
This unit was first time operating continuously during the last weekend (Dec. 8-9) and it is expected the beggining of its commercial operation for this week.
In Chilca 1, a second similar gas turbine is being built at the same time, in what expects to be the first new combined cycle plant to use natural gas in Peru, contributing to renew the peruvian generation complex, based before mainly on water and oil. It should be mentioned that a previous exinting power plant called Ventanilla, in Lima, belonging to Edegel (Endesa) is the first combined cycle operating in Peru; this plant, with its 485MW, uses natural gas since Oct. 2004 and is operating in combiend cycle mode since June 2006.
Chilca 1 is not the only new project being built in Chilca. Also, Globeleq is in process of bulding its plant named 'Kallpa' (350MW) that will consist on 2 open cycle gas turbines. Furthermore, the project 'Egechilca' (500MW) is in standby but only expecting for better condidtions to begin its construction.
